There are vibrant swathes of heather up on the Welsh border path. LLwybr Clawdd Offa, I couldn’t fail to want to get the paints out and include them in a composition. Then I had the perfect excuse when I was contacted by an American couple who had walked the path and wanted an original painting to remember the experience by. It was such a pleasure to work in these rich colours in thick layers of oil and cold wax. I added in a view of the beacons which line up magnificently as you reach the part of the path that drops down into Y Gelli (Hay on Wye).
