Treasure Lies Beneath – etching
Atmospheric scene, a stand of trees in wilhouette silhouette - etching combined with pen and ink, handprinted and embellished by Helen Arthur, 30 × 40 cm in mount
From an open edition of etchings, and each artwork is unique due to hand-embellished marks.
This is part of my series called the Wood Wild Web, all about the relationships between trees and underground fungi and roots from other trees. Inspired by scientists’ fascinating discoveries in recent decades, uncovering the intricate web of communication, support and life both above and below ground in forests and woodlands.
To make this etching, I scratched into recycled plastic then worked ink into the scratched surface. The inked plate is run through a traditional printing press under damp archival paper. I have added an embossed area enhanced by stippling with pen and brown ink.
artwork on archival quality paper (Fabriano brand)
hand printed, embellished and mounted (acid free)
